Where: Fairview Range Regional Health Services
What happened: Patient assignment refused
Why: We had 15 patients with a newly admitted patient making it 16 that day. We also had a suicidal patient with a high fall risk, who requires a 1-to-1 patient per provider order for safety. The supervisor pulled our Nursing Assistant who was administering the 1-to-1 care for another patient in the hospital. Both of us RNs then refused to accept more admitted patients for safety. We had to make 15 minute rounds on all patients in addition to our regular duties.
